councillor communications training course

Councillors regularly find themselves caught between a rock and a hard place facing difficult decisions and yet trying to meet the needs of their constituents and the wider population. This training course guides members through the communications, explaining and clarifying the different ways of meeting the organisation’s objectives whilst ensuring they are fully equipped to meet their community engagement agenda.

The programme also includes a media training session designed to help councillors to get their messages across via the media as well as looking at other successful integrated communications methods.

The training course examines:

  • How to make sure the council’s communications strategy fits in with corporate and community objectives
  • Integrated channels to get the organisations and a councillor's message across
  • How to write a powerful press release and copy for promotional material
  • How to prepare for a media interview
  • How to identify a story
  • How to prepare your key messages
  • How to handle different interview styles
  • How to handle awkward questions

Duration - half a day

Costs start from - £1,750 plus VAT for a group of up to six people, including all course materials (excludes room hire, group meals and trainer travel and accommodation costs)
